Medicinal cannabis helps children to overcome chemotherapy

More than 103 children and young adults with cancer who received cannabis to treat the symptoms were benefited in a study carried out in the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, in Minnesota United States.

Since 2014, medical cannabis was approved in this state. For this reason, from July 2015 to February 2019 the research was conducted, which included a selection of conditions related to cancer and its treatment, in order to provide information that would provide reliable data of available testimonial information.

According to one of the authors, “children and young adults who are cancer patients are interested in medicinal cannabis to treat their symptoms.” The age range was from 1 to 15 years.

“The most common diagnoses are leukemia (36%), brain tumors (37%), and malignant tumors (26%), in addition, the most common indications are related to chemotherapy: nausea, pain and cancer,” says the study. .

Despite the legality, the data showed that only 24% had been treated with this alternative. The researchers recommend further studies to identify the efficacy of medicinal cannabis.
